Warehouse Push Back System

How Push Back Racking Works

A push back racking system is a metal structure with rails consisting of rollers, nested carts or shuttles to provide maneuverability. An operator loads the first pallet onto the front of the rack like normal. When it comes time to load the second pallet, the rollers push the first unit backward to make room.

An operator performs the reverse sequence when unloading. The system allows for easy removal of each unit until the rack is empty.

Push back racking is modular, meaning you can combine it with your other shelving and storage systems to create a flexible configuration based on your warehouse’s workflow.

Push Back Racking Applications and Benefits

Almost any operation that requires storage can benefit from a push back racking system, especially if there’s significant pallet usage inside your facility.  Several examples of specific applications include:

  • Food processing.
  • Manufacturing.
  • Warehousing and distribution.
  • Automotive operations.
  • Pharmaceuticals.

When you choose Arbon Canada to install a push back rack system at your facility, you’ll experience an extensive range of benefits, including:

  • Increased organization: You can use each channel for a different item, creating better product separation and improved orderliness.
  • Enhanced accessibility: Regardless of how many pallets are in the channel, there’s always a unit at the front. When an operator removes a pallet, the remaining inventory flows forward automatically.
  • Maximized space efficiency: Push back racking allows you to utilize depth and height to optimize capacity instead of being limited to two-dimensional storage.
  • Improved productivity: Increased organization and enhanced accessibility result in faster picking times and decreased labor costs.
  • Low labor risks: Racking structures reduce employee accident risks because they do not have to enter directly into the channels to remove pallets.
